Came in in crisis left feeling far worse. Felt like a psych ward. Restriction on phones, forcing outings and the food is just crap it’s not catered it’s random people dropping off the same thing almost everyday. did not feel treated as an adult or safe here . The staff is just mean, the therapists and medical staff especially I lived there in fear. The clinical director is not supportive but threatening instead. Have so much trauma from this place. You do these groups that are so generic and if you have a panic attack they just leave you on your own and tell you to walk the property. The CAs are very unprofessional walking around extra loud in loud shoes whilst you try to sleep. You are sharing rooms with who knows who if it’s another person there for mental health or someone detoxing off of a substance or someone just coming out of jail. They made my journey much worse and I had to go back to residential but found one that was much more supportive. This place felt like scenes from the movie girl interrupted, save yourself further trauma.

I’m very grateful for this program. It really impacted my life for the better. The therapists are outstanding. The clinical director at the house I stayed at was phenomenal. The RA’s were amazing. There were little things that could be tweaked about the program but no program will be perfect. This one was pretty close. I’m very happy I came here and got treatment.
Thank you everyone at La Ventana ❤️

I went here back in 2018, and the older red haired lady that was in charge told me to leave some of my bags when I was heading home. I never got those bags of stuff back, and I am still bothered by this. She is honestly a TERRIBLE human being for doing that, AND the treatment was not very satisfactory while I was a patient here either, I just feel like there are much better programs than this one, and a part of my life was thrown away while coming here.

This review is specifically for Briar Cliff house with Jennifer as clinical director. This is not “at will” treatment, every week your therapist reaches out to insurance to see how long they can keep you instead of recognizing growth or listening to you. I was administered a medication that made me gain 20 lbs without being told of side effects or being given other options. My families request for other options was completely ignored until the last week i was there (three weeks in) and it randomly appeared on my chart. The “catered” food is actually random guys dropping food off that is soggy, salty, fattening and disgusting. The psychiatrist you meet with is on zoom and sometimes the clinical director uncomfortably sits in on appointments just to feel productive by being assertive. The clinical director is a bully that projects her issues onto others. You can just look at a photo of her and it’s very clear she is not a health focused person given the fact she is obese. The main employees that work here are condescending and it is clear they talk about patients behind their back for personal entertainment. The environment feels catty and is certainly not for healing. They claim to have yoga but it’s actually them just putting random youtube videos on in a small living room and giving you mats, they also claim to have equine therapy but it’s actually just taking people to go brush dirty horses. During treatment you’re expected to find a therapist, psychiatrist, and outpatient care but only given extremely small time increments to do so. I had one room mate who stabbed herself in the face because she was so frustrated with staff, then my next room mate was mentally disabled and staff barely paid attention to her while she clearly was exhibiting destructive behaviors (binge eating, caffeine late in the day, not sleeping, not showering). I highly urge you to not bring a loved one here. They care more about billing insurance than the people in there. They do not care about your life path or well being. The therapists love to hear themselves talk and be in a position to feel superior. Most groups they just hand you random print outs from the internet or books. I’m still dealing with losing the weight I gained here and the trauma endured here.

This facility actually cares about their clients and it shows. When they say they treat their clients like family they mean it. Perfectly structured programming and passionate staff. I definitely got the help I needed and I feel like the staff at La Ventana went above and beyond for me and my family. I will forever be grateful to them.

I would not recommend this place . It has been almost a year since I left and now have some time sober so this is coming from a place where I’ve had time to reflect on my experience here . There is ALOT to go into but I would like to start off by saying they told me my treatment was covered by insurance . My insurance got “cut” . My family and I were made unaware and they started billing us . We made NO verbal or written agreement to paying out of pocket. Time goes on and the payment obviously has not been made. Consequently when you don’t pay for a service that service is no longer going to be provided, understandable. What’s not understandable is NOT being told insurance was cut and we needed to pay out of pocket for me to keep staying there . Well WEEKS pass and they finally alert me and my family of this . We say we aren’t paying because we were under the impression my stay was being covered by insurance and that was the only reason I was staying . I had already wanted to leave this place but I stayed because we thought insurance was covering it . My family is all the way out in Georgia and I am not from California nor have any family or friends out there . The owner , who I had met the first time by being CURSED AND YELLED at inappropriately because I opened the wrong door, called my father and said “if you don’t pay within “x” amount of hours I’m going to put your addict daughter out on the streets of California”. Further more while I was in sober living the staff there’s actions were just out of pocket . Being accused multiple times of things I’ve never done regarding MY PAST and when asked where did you get this information from they would just laugh . Another staff member came over during the night time , who’d I never met , while I was on the couch minding my own business and watching tv . Comes over and caused a whole situation yelling at me at about being selfish , making the other girls who I lived with uncomfortable , etc because apparently I didn’t ever let anyone else in the sober living watch tv . I had never been informed about this or anything so for a staff member who’d never been around or met to just start coming at me at the end of the day like this I felt HIGHLY uncomfortable about her confronting me in this manner around other clients. I tried to meditate the situation by saying “sure we can find something we all want to watch” but instead she just said “give me the remote” . This obviously upset me because it was done rudely and her other words were uncalled for because she started saying stuff to personally attack me . The detox is alright and the majority of staff who work on the detox are quite nice. The programming is repetitive but it’s alright , I will say I’ve been to murmurous treatment centers so my POV could be biased on the repetitive part but it’s mainly just staff talking and there’s rarely any time for the clients to talk , receive feedback, and ask questions. I could keep going by over all there are PLENTLY of other treatment centers to go to or send your loved one to . I would highly recommend not coming here . I’ve never written a review for a treatment center to “blast” them but for this place I felt the need to speak up .

La Ventana saved my life. I wouldn’t be here today if I did not have this treatment program to help me through my journey. I entered La Ventana last year and 2022 on August 3rd. It was for benzo abuse for over 20 years of my life. This is my first time in rehab and I had no idea what to expect. La Ventana is designed to have a successful form of treatment. You start off in detox and then you go to their aftercare programs. I must emphasize that what you put into it you really get out of it. It’s going to be some of the hardest work in your life, but the journey is worth coming out on the other side. The facilitators were truly wonderful helping me get a my benzo abuse. They don’t hold your hand. They make you comfortable as possible. It truly was the most terrifying experience but it was successful. When I went to the aftercare program, I knew if I didn’t have the after care programs I wouldn’t be here today. I’ve spent the last La Ventana treatment facilities, and they truly did save my life. But, if you don’t put in the hard work, you’ll keep coming back unsuccessful. If you want a successful journey la Ventana is an absolutely wonderful program. I owe my life to La Ventana, but they gave me the greatest gift possible. They gave me myself back.
Six months, sober and winning. Thanks to La Ventana.
