A few weeks ago we started our search for a carpet company to install carpet in a single room and stairs. Roughly 56 yards of carpet. We visited several companies and last visited Tony's. Our estimates for this job ranged from @ $1,150 to $1,650 at all locations. This company was our last stop. All started off well, very nice people etc. We again were given several options to choose from and took two samples home with us as we had narrowed down our choices to these options but had basically settled on the one after comparing the color, texture, feel, thickness of the carpet etc. This is where things took a turn. While there, the one sample we decided on we were told that he had several pieces of carpet to do our relatively small job and he even had one roll out. The color of the carpet certainly seemed to match the sample we were given.

Fast forward to June 18 as they were able to schedule our job relatively fast. The installers showed up and everything seemed great. The carpet appeared to be what we chose and the installers did a fine job and were very nice professional folks. It wasn't until the job was complete and the installers left when I picked up a couple remnants of the carpet and noticed that the carpet quality that was just installed did not match what the sample was. I called Tony immediately to tell him that the wrong carpet had been installed as the quality did not match the sample we were given. Of course he tried to say that it had to be the same but eventually he agreed to come out and see what I was talking about. The following Friday, June 25, he did arrive as promised but only said that he showed me the roll he was going to use and he did not know how I got that sample. Unfortunately I did not examine a roll of carpet rolled up on the floor in his shop. The samples I received was what was important and the colors certainly seemed to be a match. Anyway, I was not looking to have the carpet replaced but I wanted to see what he could do to remedy the situation in which I was not happy with the product we got. I feel the product was switched from the one we decided on to the one that was actually installed. Not saying anything was done intentionally as I have no proof of that but in the end I did not get the product I expected. Tony's reply is I got the carpet I paid for to which one could argue that's technically true from his perspective but I did not get the carpet I bargained for. You would think that we had enough information after looking at several companies and samples that we were prepared to make an informed decision. We thought we did. We chose Tony's offer which was higher than the average at $1,450. In retrospect we should have went with the cheaper carpets we priced at other places to match what we received from Tony in terms of quality and could have saved a few hundred dollars.

My recommendation is if you deal with this company get everything in writing. My mistake that I didn't but another lesson learned. Fortunately I learned my lesson before replacing the carpets in the entire house which would be about 6 times this job. Also made sure some friends who just started carpet shopping for their entire house were aware of my situation and to be cautious. It's a shame things ended this way. They seemed very friendly on the front end but had nothing on the back end to even attempt to resolve my issue. I was just looking for him to say they made a mistake and even an offer of a mere $100 credit would have at least made me feel like he cared instead of blaming me for the situation because I trusted the sample they gave me vs the roll of carpet they showed me. Ironic, I would have turned down any small offer of restitution. I always try to give the local person a job over the big companies even if it costs a little more. Not trying to be vindictive either but it bothers me when I am completely blamed for this situation and no ownership at all of the problem on their end. I hope the profit on this job was worth it as you could have had a customer for life.
