We live in Montgomery county, have a beautiful piece of land a patio that's been underutilized for years. My wife kept wanting to do something with it but we couldn't think of a use for it that would be worth the time needed to invest into making it happen. This winter we were visting friends in Germany and noticed they had what was essentially a glass folding wall separating their living room from the outside. Super functional, easy to use and it seemed like a perfect solution for our yard. Except there was one problem - our yard is 10,000 miles away and I've never seen this here in the states. Luckily google came to the rescue. After we got back I found a company that makes these folding walls (they call them bi-fold doors) 30 miles from my house. Standing in my living room a month later was like standing in the middle of a field – the fresh breeze paired with a wonderful view made us spend more time at home, and actually enjoy it. Highly recommend!

Over the past couple of months I've been watching a contractor crew wrestle with my neighbor's back patio door. He's got one of those half-plastic/half-wood contraptions that i guess they didn't measure correctly at first, so they had to come back and redo it... I did like the idea though - my basement could definitely use more light and air.

In the classical tradition of keeping up with the Joneses, I decided I should get a huge sliding door between my backyard and my den. After doing some research I came to a decision that flimsy plastic isn't for me, and due to the size it had to be a custom job. Luckily my coworker mentioned a local company that does exactly what I need - building customized sliding aluminum doors, except in my case it was more of a wall than a door because it's 24 feet wide.

I got in the car and drove to their offices. After getting a short tour of their facility i was impressed enough to start talking business. Long story short - it's not the cheapest, but let's just say watching my neighbor stand in awe speechless was well worth the investment. Plus my house now looks and feels like a villa.
